‘Making sushi is an art, and experience is everything.’ – Nobu Matsuhisa, celebrity chef and restaurateur

The capital city’s culinary scene is bursting with new cuisines and food types. There’s something for everyone!

My friends were all going ga-ga about sushi and I always thought of it as just raw fish! That doesn’t sound very appetizing, does it? Well that’s not entirely true. I discovered later that though they may look raw, the fish undergo various processes where they are pickled, blanched, frozen or soaked in rice wine (saké).

When I was feeling a little adventurous, I decided to order from this little place in Vasant Vihar called Sumo Sushi! They have an extensive menu with so many options – it’s easy to get confused but the staff will help you out. Not many people know that there is something called vegetarian sushi as well! I tried the Avocado Cream Cheese and California Veg Roll…absolutely loved it!

Sumo Sushi is also one of the few places that have chicken versions – my friend ordered the chicken katsu and Tokyo rolls and had a tough time in deciding which was better. The sushi is really fresh, the soy sauce and wasabi was spot on and the quantity of the sushi was perfect according to their pricing which is economical.

They also offer platters which include Sashimi, Nigiri, Hosomaki, Temaki, Futomaki, and much more. Their signature dishes are Uramaki Sushis, Signature Rolls, and Sushi Platters. People also drop in for rolls such as Spicy Salmon, Tokyo Roll, Dynamite Roll, JB Roll, and Crunchy Spicy Tuna. Get a sushi box and you can sample an assortment of veg and non-veg sushi. The staff is very helpful and will assist you in ordering something according to your palette. They also pay great attention to detail and make sure you enjoy the food.

It’s an acquired taste agreed, but once you’re hooked, you’re going to be a sushi-fan for life!
