Summer is so much about the outdoors! Whether you’re out working, hanging out with friends or just holidaying by the sea, there’s just no escaping the summer sun. The price to pay for a ‘moment in the sun’ is a tan!
People in the West love sporting a darker complexion, but folks in a hot country like India can’t think so. Too much exposure to UVA and UVB rays can lead to serious skin problems like sunburn, acne, wrinkles, dark spots, premature aging of skin and hyper-pigmentation. And that is definitely a matter of concern!
A regular skin care routine is therefore, extremely necessary for maintaining your skin’s health and glow. It not only nourishes the skin but is also quite helpful in tan removing.
Getting rid of a tan is a major topic of discussion…so without further delay we give you some easy ways to get rid of a summer tan.
1. Cover up!
Avoid too much sun exposure, especially in the afternoons. Make sure to carry an umbrella or a scarf to cover your face and other exposed areas of your body. No amount of creams and beauty treatments can really help you unless you avoid getting too much sun exposure.
2. Use Sunscreen and Anti-Tan Creams
The easiest and quickest way to deal with a tan, sunscreens are a must have for all. Grab a sunscreen with high SPF (if you’ve got sensitive skin, then opt for low SPF) or a good anti-tanning cream and make it a habit to apply some each time you step out. Make sure to apply some light moisturizer or BB cream before applying the sunscreen. Here are some tips to keep in mind while selecting a sunscreen.
3. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate!
Exfoliating regularly is a great way of enjoying a tan free and blemish free skin. Use a scrub and exfoliating lotion (you can make some at home too) to get rid of dead cells and to naturally blend the uneven skin tone caused by tanning. Be gentle though!
Aloe Vera’s highly beneficial for the skin, especially in summer. It not only helps cleanse and nourish our skin but it’s an excellent remedy for getting rid of a tan as well. Use it regularly to get visibly lighter skin in just a few weeks. There are many gels available in the market, but the best and easiest way is to keep an aloe plant at home. Just break off a piece and apply the gel directly. Works wonders!
5. Coconut’s good for you!
The advantages of the good ol’ coconut are known to us since antiquity. But probably not many are aware of its role as a de-tanning agent. You can make a paste of the white fleshy part of a green coconut and leave it on for 15 minutes to un-tan your skin in no time! Or try mixing coconut water with multani mitti (fuller’s earth) and use it as face pack regularly. It will remove the tan and also leave your skin glowing.
An age old remedy for any and every skin related concern, trust the traditional ubtan to help you get rid of that summer tan also. A mixture of herbal ingredients, this traditional Indian beauty recipe is suitable for all skin types and can be used regularly. Mix it with water or yogurt and apply it on the affected areas and you’ll see the result within days, no kidding!
A natural bleaching agent, lemon’s another great cure for a sun tan. Applying fresh lemon juice on a regular basis can help you easily and naturally get rid of your tan. You can also try mixing lemon juice with other ingredients like cucumber or potato (in paste form) or egg yolk to get quicker result. Add a few drops of rosewater to it to get the perfect face pack.
8. Check into a salon
Natural remedies and de-tanning products can be helpful no doubt, but you’ve got to make sure that your efforts have actually paid off! So a monthly visit to the salon and getting a professional de-tanning facial is worth it!
Hope this summer passes by without a tan! If not, give these remedies a try and let us know….Leave a comment.
