When they said beauty is not about conforming to other peoples’ unrealistic ideals, but about finding what’s best for you, we agreed. But a little help from the experts in grooming won’t hurt, we think. We’ve trawled the net and picked up a few hair and make-up trends that are very easy to follow and help you look on-trend in no time.
P.S. Menfolk, thanks for showing some interest in grooming yourself – a whole post dedicated to you is coming up!
Get a bob cut, but keep it a little long, and voila, you get a lob! It’s the one hair trend that’s recommended by stylists across the globe, and it’s also super easy to maintain. For a day look, just keep the waves, a quick blow dry makes you party ready in no time!
No-nonsense with the centre parting
The comeback of the year! It’s simple and classy.
Spot a curly-haired girl, and chances are you’ll find she’s best friends with a styling iron. For some reason, girls with curls always love to straighten their hair. But listen girls, it’s time to celebrate your ringlets as they are in fashion! Should we thank Kangna Ranaut for it? Maybe, but if you’ve got them, flaunt them!
Crimping is cool again!
It’s the one trend from the ‘90s we thought would never come back. But it has. Crimping has been creating waves on international runways. A bad crimping job can make it look as if you fried your hair, so use the iron sparingly, and alternate strands to keep the look on-trend.
Don’t mess with messy braids
Twisted rope/messy/fishtail/French/milkmaid/classic plait- there are many versions of the braid, and there is one for every occasion in your day. Braids were quite the rage in 2014, and their popularity will continue to soar this year as well.
A make-up trend that has timeless appeal, and is loved by both men and women in equal measure. Make-up trends may come and go, but this one has endured and will continue to be around for a long time. From socialites to high street fashionistas, from college students to movie stars, a smokey eye is the go-to make-up for those who looking to highlight their eyes. Try a green/turquoise blue smokey eye this year, works very well for Indian skin tones. And even Cleopatra will surely approve.
It’s time to get in shape – your eyebrows included. Perfectly shaped and strong brows are the trend-setters this year, so ladies, embrace big brows! If your brows are scarce, you can create an illusion of thickness by using an eyebrow pencil. Your eyebrows will not only enhance the overall shape of your face, but also your eye make-up!
Dial M for Marsala
The Pantone Colour Institute – the last word on colour trends globally, has picked ‘marsala’ as the colour of the year. It can be described as a ‘naturally robust earthy wine red’. If you can’t find the right shade, the closest contender would be a rich plum, a universally flattering shade. But make heads turn with a dark lip. Pout away!
If beauty can come out of a jar, facial oils will be the staple diet of all beauty and make-up diets. Known to plump, hydrate and soothe the skin, facial oils will make any make-up look better. They are quickly becoming the beauty cure-all du jour. You should get one too!
And that’s it ladies. Whatever you do and wear, remember to keep it stylish!
