Ace designer Rohit Bal famously said that in India, Bollywood decides what’s in fashion. And we kind-of agree. Don’t you like an actress’s look and then try to create a similar look for yourself? Even when it comes to bridal looks, we look up to the Bollywood divas while deciding what to wear. Of course, the stars are always in designer togs on screen, and many have played bride on screen, but what do they choose to wear on their own wedding day? We bring you some pics of our favourite prima donnas in their real bridal avatars:
1. Old-world charm – Diya Mirza
The most recent B-town bride, Diya was the epitome of Nizami royalty. Blessed with a porcelain complexion, raven hair and the most exquisite features, Diya kept her look simple. She picked traditional farshi pyjamas in cream with delicate embroidery, but paired it with stunning jewellery. Emeralds, pearls, and kundan with the passa giving her a true-blue regal look. The mandatory red came from her chooda. LOVE.
2. Best of both worlds – Genelia D’Souza
The new mommy created quite a splash when she got married – she danced to the nines at her own sangeet! And looked like a vision – when she chose pristine white for her church wedding and when she wore a stunning Ritu Kumar lehenga for the pheras. Both looks got collective thumbs up!
3. Bride on a bike – Gul Panag
Coy, demure, shy- isn’t this how we expect a bride to be? Naah, not Gul! The spunky gal donned aviators along with her onion-pink JJ Valaya lehenga. The baraat came on Royal Enfields and Gul rode in a sidecar after the wedding. Big smiles everywhere. Perfect!
4. Begum-e-khaas – Kareena Kapoor
The Saifeena wedding was one of the most talked-about weddings of tinsel town. It included a reception in Delhi’s power hotspot – Aurangzeb Road, with Rahul Gandhi also paying a visit. We loved it because Kareena, who could have worn the finest designer threads from across the world, chose to wear a family heirloom. Her burnt orange and gold sharara, in signature Pataudi style was the same ensemble that Saif’s mom, Sharmila Tagore wore on her own wedding. Restored lovingly by Manish Malhotra, Kareena looked every bit the blue-blooded begum she had just become.
5. Ethereal & eternal – Aishwarya Rai
The most beautiful woman in the world decided to get married. We can still recall the media frenzy that surrounded this Bachchan-Rai wedding. Of course everyone was dying to catch a glimpse of the bride. We liked her post wedding look much more – simple, glowing and resplendent in red.
6. When out-spoken met soft-spoken: Kajol
Feisty and fabulous, Kajol has always been unpredictable – from her choice of movies to her choice of life partner. Many people were surprised that she was marrying the serious Ajay Devgn, but when Kajol sets her mind on to something, she usually gets her way. However, she is probably one of the simplest Bollywood brides – a bottle green sari, gold jewellery and flowers in her hair, this Marathi wedding was hush hush, but lovely none-the-less!
